We will only ship your order via FedEx Overnight-NEXT-DAY ... unless temperatures are above 42 F (6 C) for 3 or more consecutive days.  If you order using the shopping cart you MUST choose the next-day delivery shipping option ONLY ... choosing other slower shipping options will delay the shipping of your order - as we wait for warmer temperatures - in an attempt to safely ship your perishable items.  If you still want your order shipped using a slower service (3 or more days) there is NO Live Delivery Guarantee - your are assuming the risk of DOA bugs and we assume no liability whatsoever.

Please Note: We do not issue a refund on any prepaid orders.

NOTE: Processing and shipping of your order may be delayed when temperatures are below 34 F (1 C) or above 79 F (27 C)

Butterworms are imported from Chile.  In addition to their color and fruity smell, butter worms are extremely high in calcium...more than twice that of most other feeder insects (except for Phoenix Worms in their mature phase - just before they reach the pupa stage).

Butter worms are an absolute favorite of Box Turtles, Bearded Dragons, Geckos, and most lizards.  They are a good live feeder insect addition for added variety in your exotic's diet. In addition to their nutritional value, Butterworms are readily accepted by a wide variety of reptiles.

Note: Butterworms are high in fat content and should only be given as a treat, 2-3 times a week, and not used as an every day staple feeder.

Butterworms can be stored for up to 4 months in a refrigerator at 40-50° F, about 5-10° C, though around here (our bearded dragons really loves them...) butterworms never stay around that long.

Butterworms require no maintenance, nor need any feeding or any special care whatsoever, making them one of the easiest live feeders to keep and to feed to your pets in providing the necessary variety, essential in creating a good balanced diet, for any 'herps' (Bearded dragons, chameleons, geckos, anoles, newts, turtles, frogs, birds, fish), and mall mammals.

Try them out ... you'll be really glad you did when you see how much your pets love them!

Butterworms are exceptionally high in calcium averaging about two times the normal calcium content of most other feeder insects on the Canadian market.  Silkworms and Phoenix Worms come very close, but Silkworms require more care and have higher mortality issues, while Phoenix Worms are not as plump and large as Butterworms. Their hassle-free storage and high nutritional value make butterworms a great dietary addition for a balanced diet and provide a good value for the cost ... and pets really love them!

Butterworm Care

A good source of protein for lizards.  Butterworms (Chilecomadis moore) are high in fat.  They should not be used as a staple feeder or form the basis of your lizards' diet, but are a good addition as a 'snack'.  The butterworm is actually the Chilean Moth in its larval stage.  They can measure anywhere from 1/2" to 1 3/4" in length. Their favorite habitation is the Tebo trees in Central Chile, and are sometimes also referred to as either Tebo Worms or Sweet Worms.

The Butterworm is actually the Chilean Moth in its larval stage. They measure anywhere from half an inch to 1 3/4 inches in length.

Their favorite natural homes are the Tebo Trees in central Chile. Butterworms can also be referred to as either Tebo Worms or Sweet Worms.

Food & Water

In the wild, the butterworm eats the leaves from the Tebo Tree. If you keep your worms in the refrigerator, they do not need to be fed anything. The hibernated state slows their metabolism and negates any need for food. Like the food, butterworms wil alsol not need any water when in their hibernated state.

Lighting, Temperature & Humidity

You can store butterworms in a refrigerator, where they should be kept at temperatures ranging from 5 degrees C to 10 degrees C. (41 - 50 F).

Housing

Keep your butterworms in a plastic container, with an organic substrate, like oat meal or wheat bran. Place the container in the refrigerator, but make sure they will be dry. Check the worms after about an hour. If they are webbing the substrate together, leave them. If they are not, change the substrate right away. Damp substrate will lead to mould forming. They can survive anywhere from 1 to 4 months in a hibernated state.

Breeding

Butterworms are irradiated before being shipped from Chile. This is done to kill off any bacteria to prevent the butterworm from ever pupating into a moth. These butterworms cannot be cultured at home.

Disease & Sickness

The main point to pay attention to is the dampness of the substrate the worms are kept in. You want to avoid mould growing in the container. Mould can lead to problems if digested by your lizard. If substrate becomes damp, change it immediately.
